Recent Unemployment Numbers

Friday, the government released its unemployment report- the unemployment rate held steady at 9.7% as the jobs number increased by 162,000.  Part of it (about a third) was due to temp jobs created by the government to conduct the census, but at the same time, there was positive growth in the private job market (better than expected).   On the downside, the U6 unemployment rate, another popular, more comprehensive measure of unemployment rose to 16.9% from 16.8%.  The U6 measure counts as unemployed part-time workers who want to work full-time, but cannot due to economic conditions.
